Can somebody sign the tenancy for me if I cannot travel to Spain?

  Yes, through a power of attorney. Someone you name, often a lawyer or gestor in Spain, is authorised to act for you within the limits the document sets out.

  If the document is drawn up outside Spain, it normally has to be executed before a notary and then legalised for use in Spain. Between countries in the Hague Convention that means an apostille; outside it, consular legalisation. A translation into Spanish is usually required as well. None of this is quick, so the time to arrange it is before you need it.

  How wide the authority should be is worth thinking about rather than copying: a power broad enough to sign tenancies is also broad enough to do other things. Which scope fits your situation is a conversation with the lawyer or notary who drafts it.
